Dame’s claims slammed by care home residents

Published 14/02/2012

The residents who live at care homes are hitting back very hard at Dame Judie Dench. Ms. Dench made a statement about the living conditions at the care home calling them “inhuman”. The film actress was beside herself at the sight of residents not having “much to help keep their minds active”. It was something that prompted her to be desperate about continuing to work. The seventy-seven year old actress, who is known from being in James Bond and was interviewed by Saga magazine, openly shared her experience: “It is a logical fact for anyone who visits these care homes to know. You shouldn't group people into a circle of seats to watch television the whole day. It's not human." “I’m not ready to retire just yet. I will go on working for as long as I'm able. I do have a major amount of energy in me. I'm far from being ready to have to be sent somewhere packing and instructed to raise my feet and when to go to bed at night.” The staff and residents, who live at Manor Park Care Home in Hartlepool, denied the claims made by the actress, where a good many of the residents are said to have dementia. The residents who dwell at Manor Park were viewing pictures that had activities and were enjoying other games. This was the information that was relayed by Jamie Burnett, who is the co-coordinator, and was present when Hartlepool Mail came by. One of residents named Betty Markham, who is ninety-one years old, had her say: “It's true, I don't get out like I once did, but I'm still capable of having a conversation and doing a little sewing.”
